To Preserve and Advance
the Art of Tap Dance
Tap Dance is America's
contribution to the world of percussive dance. Passed down
through an oral tradition from its inseption, Tap Dance has
been seen in theaters, clubs, and film around the world.
Tap Dancers have also contributed to numerous audio
recordings and have been sited as being integral to the
evolution of Jazz. As the cultural landscape continues to
change nationally and internationally it is imperative that
an organization produces situations in which the oral
tradition of tap dance may be continued, the contributions
of tap dancers may be promoted, and the art form may be
re-discoverd and explored in all its facets for generations
to come.
The Tap Legacy Foundation, Inc. was founded with the
charter to Preserve and Advance the Art of Tap
Dance.
- We believe that tap dance is standing today due to the contributions of the dancers and supporters of years past.
- We believe that the promotion of those contributions and the associated contributors without codification is key to the future success of the art form.
- We believe in producing events that both provide the general public with an opportunity to discover and rediscover the art form and allow those pursuing the art as tap dancers to grow.
- We believe that the art of tap dance will thrive as dancers explore their own personal voice and continue to have the initiative and opportunity to share that voice with others.
- We believe in the support of those voices through performance opportunities with a professional production value that is tap dance centric.
