Sad News - Pete Ktenas Passes - Dec 4th
12/07/2007
As it happens one generation passes on and another
finds a way to continue. On December 4th Pete Ktenas,
shoemaker and dear friend of the tap dance world,
passed away. Below please find a brief forward
written by long time Ktenas family friend and
Professor of Accessories Design at Fashion Institute
of Technology (NYC), VASILIOS.
------------------
For over forty years, Pete helped keep the theater swaying, jumping and waltzing across the stages globally. He helped make novice dancers as well as the professionals shine. However, on Tuesday morning, December 4th, 2007, he slipped away surrounded by his wife, children and grand children at home in New York City..
He leaves behind a countless legacy of artisans in the theatrical and cultural communities. Pete Ktenas was to the world of dancers what Houdini was to the world of illusion. The only difference is that Houdini's magic went with him while Pete's magic still lives on in the feet and the talent of those he catered to.As you look to the sky in the evening, watch for a falling star; it's not falling. It's actually dancing.
The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, donations be made to
St. Francis Heart Hospital
100 Port Washington Boulevard
Roslyn, N.Y. 11576
May Pete's creativity, ingenuity, honest passion for his craft and memory be eternal.
------------------
As for "Pete's Theatrical" the shop is to remain open - presently located at 28-05 Astoria Blvd, Queens, NY - 718.274.4850. Give them a call, swing by, pay your respects, and get your shoes built up by the best in the business.
